About TeamNamesGen
TeamNamesGen is a free team name generator and a set of 79 hand-written name lists holding 8,492 names, covering sports leagues, gaming squads, fantasy drafts, quiz nights, work teams and group chats.
Why the lists are grouped the way they are
Most name lists are one long undifferentiated block, which is useless when you have a specific constraint. Every list here is grouped by style and by constraint instead: short names separated out because scoreboards truncate, clean names separated out because plenty of venues will not read anything else aloud, and self-deprecating names separated out because they are the genre that survives a losing season.
Each group carries a short note explaining when that style works, and each list ends with the specific mistakes that ruin a name in that setting. The aim is that you can pick confidently in a minute rather than scrolling through four hundred options.
How the generator works
The generator runs entirely in your browser. It combines curated word banks for each category with the structural patterns real team names use, including alliteration, prefix and adjective stacking, and keyword anchoring when you supply a word of your own.
Every result comes with a short explanation of the technique behind it. That is deliberate: the explanation is more useful than the name, because it lets you keep the method even when you reject the result. The guide to picking a team name covers the same techniques in full.
What this site collects
Nothing you type. The generator, the keyword field and the saved-names list all run client-side, and saved names are stored in your own browser rather than on a server. There is no account, no signup and no submission of your inputs anywhere.
Corrections and suggestions
If a name on a list is wrong for its category, or you have one that worked for your team, the submission page is the fastest route. Submissions that come with a reason are the ones that get added.
